Site allows fans to support him and other college athletes
Chicago, IL, TBD, 2022 – Memphis resident and University of Illinois football linebacker and team captain Tarique Barnes has officially signed a ‘name, image, likeness’ (NIL) deal with NextName which offers fans the opportunity to support him through the sale of his personal digital collectibles, also known as non-fungible tokens (NFT). The collectibles are robust media files with images, music, school logo, and playing statistics. Barnes directly receives the majority of proceeds from the sale of his digital collectibles.
NextName is excited to welcome Barnes to the platform! Fans can show their support by purchasing his digital collectibles here:
Barnes led his high school football team to the 2017 4A state title, participated in two other sports, and was on the Honor Roll and Principals List. He said that he picked Illinois because, he “felt that it would give me a good opportunity to grow and excel after college.” Last year he played in all 12 games with 10 starts and finished the year with 80
tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, one interception, five pass breakups, and two forced fumbles on the season. He also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.
NextName is a platform designed to support college athletes and teams through the sale of digital collectibles. With just a few clicks, fans can purchase collectibles bearing the name, image, and likeness (NIL) of their favorites. In doing so, NextName provides fans an opportunity to help student-athletes maximize their personal band and share in the success of college athletics. Following the initial University of Illinois launch, NextName plans to expand its digital collectibles platform to include athletes and universities across the country.
